With heavy hearts, we are saddened to announce the passing of foundational member Janis Chun. She passed away on August 6, 2025 at the age of 79. A Celebration of Life will be held this Sunday 10/19 from 2-4pm at Waikalua Loko Fish Pond, Kaneohe.
Janis was the daughter of KBG Founding member Evans Yim and Barbara Yim. She was the author of Precious to Precocious: the Humor of Parenting. She was past treasurer and as a Director chaired various committees including: Program, Traffic and Transportation, Newsletter, and Social. Active in community affairs, she participated in Vision 20-20, the Kaneohe Community Family Center, and the Senior Housing Project. She was a member of NFIB and ACUW, and was a member of the Honolulu Board of Realtors, HAR and NAR. She has been listed in the National Registry of Who’s Who in America in 1995, 1996 and 1998.
Under her leadership as KBG President in 1994-1995 term, she and the board accomplished the following:
Community Service
- Participated in Project Graduation, a pilot project (at the time) to provide Castle High School seniors with an alcohol and drug free night of fun and celebration.
- Continued monitoring and removal of graffiti in Kaneohe’s business area and became involved with the Kaneohe Community Family Center.
Legislatively
- Supported the Haku Alliance and worker’s compensation bill, the Kaneohe Elderly Housing project on Kamehameha Hwy, pushed for capital improvements for Windward Community College per its master plan, and supported the area near district park for the new courthouse complex.
The Midyear social was another casino night at the Kaneohe Yacht Club with lots of food and prizes.
