Aloha members, I hope you’ll take some time to read about our nominees in this issue and talk to them at our next lunch gathering May 26. We have some new folks who have volun- teered to serve as well as long-time mem- bers who have given generously of their time over the years. We’ll be voting at our general membership meeting this month and will have our installation June 23. We’re moving ahead with planning for the Windward Ho‘olaule‘a, but with a new date of Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010. Our original September date conflicted with Bayfest and an appearance by the Blue Angels, so we decided not to go head-to- head with the Marines. This way we can enjoy two great Windward-side events and not have to choose. Check the web site at windward.hawaii.edu/hoolaulea for the latest details on entertainment and vendor applications. We’re also starting work on our new KBG
interactive web site with BossHawaii. Look for features that will better connect your business with customers and visitors as we develop content over the next few months. We will Bonnie Beatson At our last board meeting, Ikaika Hussey, KBG member and publisher of the Hawaii Independent online news- paper, briefed us on a project to help small businesses promote themselves in print. He’s proposing selling busi- ness card-size spaces for a coupon or ad message on a tabloid-size sheet that could be delivered to households with a $1 donation. The cost per ad would be $95. With the daily newspaper market and ad rates in a state of flux, he’s hoping this kind of grassroots approach might help fill the void. Stay tuned for more details about ways we can promote our businesses and KBG. Aloha, Prez Bonnie
